” Launch of Gifu Academy of Forest Science and Culture
 
At the same time, in 2001, in Gifu prefecture, a unique school called Gifu Academy of Forest and Culture was founded. Developed from a two-year college of Forestry in order to find ways to solve many problems of the current forestry, it is a vocational school which offers various programs on forestry, natural woodland, environmental education, woodworking, and architecture. People with various career records from all over the country gathered to be educated. In the studio of wooden architecture, instructed by Professor Misawa, students had practical classes on architecture which enabled them to reestablish a network of people and materials from the local mountains to town. Mr. Takiguchi was one of them, who made a case study on Woodmiles and made clear that Woodmiles could be a tool to promote the use of local timber.
Soon after that, in June 2003, recommended by leaders from various industries, Woodmiles Forum was launched with Mr. Kumazaki of Gifu Academy of Forest and Culture as a chairman.
